Health Club from Hell! From time to time it appears that the Corporate world has little concern for the individuals whom together comprise profits the corporation enjoys. These stories are legion. Those connected with Bally's Total Fitness will find a new home among the pages of Another America. I am composing the first Salvo against a company that has taken steps to impair my credit for refusing to accept the tender offered to meet the demands of three year contract that concluded in May of 2008. I spent more than an hour on the phone with Bally's Total Fitness Corporate Office in Norwalk and in particular with a woman named Anna. Because she was the last person with whom I conversed the buck will stop with her. If anyone can further identify her we will post her complete proper name to make contact easier for each subsequent reported problem. Her refusal to take the simple human step of remedying a negative credit report is whence from which all will follow in the pages documented hereafter. My journey through the inferno of Bally's corporate began with my wife's stolen credit card. The automatic debit from the account was no longer automatic. I tried to replace the card with her new card but Bally's would have none of it. Instead I had to pay cash once a month at the Gym. I made several such payments and then experienced a devastating physical collapse. During the next three months I was bed ridden. Since they had refused my wife's new credit card for payment and since I was unable to pay them in person the account fell into arrears. I received no notice of this until I received a nasty letter indicating that Bally's had gleefully destroyed my credit and would continue to do so for the next 7 years even if I paid them the demanded payment. I paid the money requested. I explained the reasons for the delinquency. I offered doctor's verification for the physical ailment in question. I requested that they remove the negative report from the listing. This they refused to do. Anna and her co-horts at Bally's Total Fitness would rather have the negative publicity of international contempt, derision and manifold ongoing complaints than dropping the requisite postage to the bureaus to whom they wantonly report to destroy the credit history of their members.
